Senator Bryant Richardson Applauds Federal Court Ruling Striking Down Biden Administration’s Title IX Overhaul

January 13, 2025

DOVER, DE — Senator Bryant Richardson (R-Seaford) issued the following statement in response to U.S. District Chief Judge Danny Reeves’ recent ruling that struck down the Biden administration’s attempt to redefine Title IX by including “gender identity” in the language of the federal law:

“I applaud Judge Reeves’ principled decision to restore the original intent of Title IX, which has long been a safeguard for fairness, safety, and privacy in educational settings. Title IX was established to protect women and girls, ensuring equal opportunities in academics and athletics. The Biden administration’s radical attempt to rewrite this foundational law undermined those very protections by prioritizing gender identity over biological sex.

“Judge Reeves’ ruling is a victory for common sense and a strong affirmation of constitutional principles, including free speech and parental rights. The court’s decision appropriately recognized that the Department of Education exceeded its authority, acted capriciously, and violated the First Amendment.

“I stand firmly in support of policies that uphold the privacy, fairness, and safety of all students while protecting the integrity of women’s sports and educational spaces. This ruling is a significant step toward ensuring Title IX continues to fulfill its original purpose.

“I have attempted twice to pass a Fairness in Girls’ Sports Act. I hope this ruling will remedy the problem once and for all.”
