Senator Richardson Hosts Human Trafficking Conference

September 28, 2022

DOVER, DE – This week, Senator Bryant Richardson (R-Seaford) hosted a three-day conference focused on identifying and combatting human trafficking. Nearly 150 invited guests were in attendance, including law enforcement personnel, lawmakers, officials from Delaware’s school districts, and various state agencies.

According to the Shared Hope International Institute for Justice & Advocacy, Delaware is one of 39 states to receive an F rating on its report card relating to child and youth sex trafficking.

“Since being elected, I have made protecting the lives of innocent children one of my top priorities,” Senator Richardson said in a statement. “We must act swiftly to end human trafficking and keep our most vulnerable safe.”

Coordinated by his legislative assistant, Sara Poore, the conference featured nationally renowned experts whose presentations explained how to combat sexual exploitation in communities throughout Delaware.

“In doing research for legislation earlier this year, it became apparent that Delaware was one of the worst states in the nation for prevention, identification and survivor care,” Senator Richardson stated. “Sara and I felt it was important to bring everyone together with experts in the field to bring about much-needed change.”

Guest speakers included Dr. Marian Hatcher, a survivor leader and policy consultant, and Dr. Stephany Powell, the Vice President and Director of Law Enforcement Outreach and Training with the National Center on Sexual Exploitation.

The conference was held at Legislative Hall from Monday, 9/26 through Wednesday, 9/28.

Senator Richardson represents the 21st Senate District, which currently includes Seaford, Laurel, Blades, Delmar, Gumboro and parts of unincorporated Millsboro.
